Hello,

I have a new sata 500GB HD and an oem version of Win7. When I put the CD in the drive and start the bios details come up on the screen but it doesn't pickup the cd to start the OS.

I went to setup and made sure the CD-ROM was the first boot device. I hooked another loaner cd-rom up but it still didn't work.

This is an HP Pavilion w/ Pegatron MB, 8GB RAM, Phenom Quad CPU.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Doug

Are you certain its not picking up your disc maybe wipe the disc that there are no fingerprints or mars your drive maybe sensitive to that

I tried that J. I even substituted mine for a new blu-ray to check. One thing I did notice is in the bios details on the screen where it says 1st drive, 2nd drive, 3rd drive, 4th drive... all of them say none unless I unplug the computer for a while then reboot and it will list the HD as 1st drive and the CD-ROM as 3rd.

I've tried Win 7, Vista, Linux, and linux LIVE cd's and nothing. rabbitt999

How can I format the HD without using the OS? Just a standalone format like the old DOS start disks. I don't have a floppy.

Well if i go into my bios and change IDE/ Detection Before PATA then it all works as soon as i set it to behind it says the same thing, "Nothing" Well i am starting to think your IDE is priority over your SATA interface, so you must find a way to swop that round by making SATA the first detection and maybe also try disable your IDE,

Some discs are prone to not reading you will just have to maybe try borrow another CD/DVD drive an hope it works out, Unfortunately if you don't the only way you will format that drive is by placing it in another PC with an OS or using the installation disc upon boot.

If all your drives are SATA then try plug the SATA Cables in this order:

SATA 1: CD/DVD Drive
SATA 2: HDD

In the bios change boot priority to CD/DVD Drive first then HDD so your PC knows to run the disc Drive first before the HDD
