Hardware upgrades making xp want activation code

Hello,
been happily running my 2nd hand home P4 for years. recently added various hardware. 2 ide drives, a card reader, gfx card, new psu, ram etc.
now XP says due to hardware changes i must activate windows again. i have no key as this machine was obtained from my mates office. they thru out a bunch of there old machines. im sure the xp is genuine. i have been letting it update regularly since i aquired it with no trouble at all.

what should i do ?

After 5 or so hardware updates xp thinks it's on a new system and requires reactivation. Call microsoft and explain to them that your vid card or something died and needed changed out. They will give you a new activation code.
