i hear people talking about C0 and D0, so whats the difference between them.

is it that C0 like the beta version, and the D0 is when they tweak and fix the chip.

C0 is more like revision 1.0 and D0 is revision 1.1. "Beta" stuff is not released, but the steppings typically go back to A0.

This PDF document from Intel lists the "errata" (bugs) in the C0 and D0 versions of the Core i7 processors. It's interesting to see how few "bugs" have actually been fixed in D0.

The list is a bit scary, but don't worry - most of these are extremely obscure problems that never affect normal programs. Occasionally you'll see a bug which causes some problems for the OS, and in that case the OS is generally changed to sidestep the problem.

Why fix bugs that have OS and BIOS workarounds or are impossible to reproduce outside the lab? :D
