RAID controllers

Forum Storage : NAS/RAID RAID controllers

Hi,

I was after some thoughts on both Highpoint and Adaptec raid controllers?

From what I have been able to find here (Australia), they are the two best suited to my price range. Is there something wrong with the Highpoint controllers, they seem to have the same features as much higher priced Adaptec cards.

Also, many of the lower end Adaptec cards do not have 64 bit LBA, does this mean that they cannot have drives/arrays larger than 2TB? I am a little confused about this point, because 48 bit LBA should be able to address up to 144 petabytes.

Is the 2TB barrier purely a partition table issue? That is, you need to use GPT instead of MBR?

Thank you!
