My friends confused in making a decision and I couldn't help him in making up his mind either so I thought I'd come here . Everybody knows that two 4770's are a deadly combo. But how good is this combo when it stacks up against two 4850's,where a single 4850 is 5-8% faster than a 4770. Is it the Performance at that Price made two 4770's the winner or is it really a solid performer than two 4850's.
If it does win over two 4850's, how ? There's only one logic that I could think of which is the GDDR5 of 4770 that makes it win over Two 4850's in Crossfire. Or is it anything else?
Both are in your words deadly combo...
If you check the current pricing, you can find the HD 4850 for about the same or actually lower prices than the 4770s...
The main advantages that the 4770s has are -
1. Uses less power than the 4850s,
2. Gives out less heat...
Just tell your friend to get the cheapest of the both...Wither would be a good option...
I would highly recommend two 4850s with 1GB DDR3, because in CrossFire you could only use the same amount of RAM as one of the card has. There isn't much point in two 512MB graphic cards if they can't handle games which require more RAM, yet have good performance.
Also consider what screen size /resolution is being used with the cards and also do you just want fast or do you want fast and pretty ?
The 4850 combo is slightly faster than the 4770 combo but takes mare power and gives out more heat, as gkay09 said.
The 4770 combo as well as the power heat benefits will take more AA/AF,generally more higher quality settings than the 4850 before it starts slowing down.
So if AA/AF,picture quality are more important than flat out speed then get the 4770's, if not get 4850's.
