Where's the i7-920 power comsumption results?
When i7-860 is selected and viewed, the power consumption is the last two charts. When i7 920 is selected, Crysis Warhead is the last chart. No idle or load charts listed.
Idle Power Consumption lists only 750, 860 and 870 for Intel.
Load Power Consumption lists the same. No 920 in the list.
The 750, 860 and 870 are all 95W and the results from that link of Total System Power Consumption (Under Load) are 184W, 180W and 181W, respectively, but without a 920 result, we can't make a comparison.
Another link for the i7-920:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/intel-core-i7-920-and-965-review/18
shows i7-920 system watts at full load of 264W.
From the same site for the i5-860:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/core-i5-750-core-i7-860-870-processor-review-test/9
shows i7-860 system watts at full load of 160W.
So there you have 104W difference in total system watts which is far greater than just the difference between the TDP's of each processor I initially pointed out. Almost three times greater. The extra on the power bill goes from $25.00 to $75.00 per year if under 100% load, 10 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Difference in idle is 25W, so if both machines only idle all year long (3,650hr) the 920 would cost about $18.00 more to run than the 860, based on $0.20/kWhr.
Reality check: for most people the dollar cost difference between the two will probably be loose change.
