Is it worth it?

I currently have a dual core 1.8ghz chip, the only really low point of my rig. Is it worth it to get a quad core chip to throw in until next year or will the performance difference not be that much?

  1. You need to provide more info about your current setup. Then provide what type of budget you are considering for your next purchase.
  2. Currently:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.8ghz (775 socket)
    Asus P5NSLI Motherboard
    4gig (2x2048) DDR2 800mhz Corsair XMS
    EVGA 8800GT 512 Mb gfx
    Creative Soundblaster Audigy SE
    WD Caviar Black 1TB drive

I'm looking at either geting a cpu/mobo combo (the mobo doesn't like my windows 7 64bit) and spending under 250~ to wait it up till next summer OR just buying a 100-150~ cpu (quad core I'd assume) to last me till next may or so.

I mostly surf the net, photoshop (for fun, nothing major) watch movies, edit music, game and not much else.

Is it worth the couple hundred for hte performance increase now (another 9-12 months) or should I just wait for prices on the i7/i5's to drop and build a new system next summer?
  3. Bump plz.
  4. You've shown no reason to upgrade - that rig handles everything you do.

If you want to play with something, read up and try to overclock that cpu.
