Hi,

I just got my new PC assembled and I think my power supply Mercury 385 Watt (14A) is not enough to fuel

AMD Athlonx2 7750
XFX XXX ATI 4850
2GB DDr2 COrshair
1 DVDRW drive
1 Seagate barracude 7200rpm

It turned it on and started installing Windows and the monitor turned off but the CPU fan and MOBO lights were on . So it must be the power supply which is not enough. I used Power supply calculator and it came up to 342 Watts usage . I dont want to turn it on again because it happened again

All i want to know is if I plug my Monitor cable into the onboard vga port will that like make the 4850 not consume any power from my power supply ? So that i can at least use it since my new power supply will take at least 3 days. I could try and remove the Card but I'm a PC newbie , so I cant.

Should work, if not, open the case and disconnect the HD4850, the 6 wire connector has a little 'clip' that needs to be pushed in to release it.

It wouldnt cause any damage to the GPU if its still connected with only power supply removed, right? Thanks

One step at a time.
Try it with the monitor connected to the onboard first.
