I have an older Enermax 465PE PSU that was made back when the Intel P4 was at the best.
I'm looking at upgrading and have been eyeing a Athlon II X2 250 CPU on a AM3 motherboard. So far as I can tell the PSU connectors are different from my P4-approved PSU.
So, I'm looking for some insight on a good PSU for the money that will hold me over through some upgrades like eventually adding discrete GPU (will be using onboard 4200 to save some $$$).
Some cpus don't require the 8 pin 12v connector; a 4 pin connector will work with some 8 pin boards. I would try your old ps first until you get your video card; it may work fine with onboard video. Enermax is pretty good. I still use a 20 pin atx connector on a 24 pin board; my compaq came that way, and my old antec 350w is still working fine.
