Ok so i just oredered 1045$ worth of parts from newegg.
CPU: i7 920
Mobo: Asus p6t deluxe v2
Ram: ocz gold ddr3 (3x2gig) 1600
Hard drive: ( from previous build) Western digital 500g aaks
GPU: xfx Gtx 260 216 core
PSU: Corsair 750w power supply
CD-DVD: plextor ( Wtf?) cd dvd burner w.e thing dont care
OS: Vista home prem 64-bit
Case: (from previous build) Coolermaster HAF 932
So, how did i do? anything you would do differently?
Did i screw up?
Did i get a good deal?
Please let me know, also if you know any tips for building, throw me some, ive built 2 other pc's but i dont know everything.
Only thing about the build that looks strange to me is asking for advice after the deed is done. Seems if one was seriously interested, they'd ask beforehand.
^ Its a very nice build...But I would have got the OCZ Platinum instead of the Gold for the lower CAS...
And I would have dropped the mobo to maybe P6T/ Gigabyte UD4P and would have got the GTX 275/ HD 4890...but if you dont have a high res monitor, then that doesn't matter...
But overall it is a very good setup...
And if yu plan on o/c, then certainly get an aftermarket like the Xig Dark Knight/ Scythe Mugen II/ Sunbeam CCTF 2...

+1 for all those suggestions.
and btw making a thread like this after the fact doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

No i only made this topic to get some feedback, regardless of what you may say, it wont change how i build my computer, just wanted to know what you guys thought of my build...

Personally, I think you are just looking for bragging rights....
Well, I would change the HDD for a Black Caviar WD 640 GB with 32 mb cache. Dunno if yours is with 16 or 32. Overall build is pretty good. I only wonder why you chose that gpu instead of 2 4770 or 2 4850 whose prices dropped down like hell.

-He didn't build a super computer, nothing to brag about. If he had a GTX295 and core i7 975 extreme and evga classified motherboard or something, then he could brag, but not with his build...
Im not looking for bragging rights wtf is with you haters damn...
i just wanted to get some feedback, maybe a part i got is not up to par
or maybe the asus needs i bios flash before the i7 can be installed? things along that line
^+1 agreed, guys its just a forum, if you think someone is bragging then just ignore them LOL(this guy isn't), the poor guy just wants feedback, no big deal.
Here's a tip. If this is your first i7 build, the pressure you have to put on the lever to lock the CPU in place IS pretty high. I doubted my common sense and checked the notches to be sure it was oriented correctly a couple of times, lol.

so calm down
I don't 'hate' I prefer humour. Most posters post their builds before they commit to them, not after.
OK, so feedback... I'd have gone with a Seasonic or a PCP&C PSU. And you don't need any more than a 550W unit for that build, anyway.
You spent too much for RAM. Even OC'd on water, your QPI will not even come close to using 1600.
If I didn't already have an OS, I'd have downloaded W7 RC and used that until next March. Now you have to pay to upgrade, plus the hassle of actually doing the upgrade.

I will probably do the same, see guys this is the kind of posts im looking for, i seen in a video on my same motherboard cpu combo, the person was installing a plastic X on the back of the motherboard, im guessing its for the heatsink, can anyone explain this prior to me building it?

Windows 7, you have to purchase, its not free forever. Im not a whiner, so vista is no problem to me.

??? If he overclocks to 3.2 with a host clock of 160 and a RAM multiplier of 10, doesn't that get him to 1600 MHz? I don't understand what you're saying.

Can you give me a simple explanation of overclocking the i7 cpu, and how it reaches the 1600 mhz.
Well, the OCZ memory I got was rated at 1.65 volts, 7-7-7-24 1600 MHz, but it will default to 1066 MHz when you set everything up. You have to overclock it to achieve the manufacturer values.
The base clock on your 920 will be 133 MHz with a multiplier of 20. The memory frequency is also controlled by this base clock and has a multiplier of 8. If you up the base clock to 160, you'll have a cpu speed of 3200 MHz and a RAM speed of 8*160 or 12800 MHz. If you up the memory multiplier to 10 and change the latencies to those specified, and up the voltage to 1.6, you will have 1600 MHz ram and a 3.2 GHz processor.

K, would my asus p6t deluxe v2 manual have steps to do this?

You wasted $100 on a OS, when you could of gotten windows 7 RC 64 bit for free which is good until next year june 10, 2010
Lesson learned, but how would i get on the internet to download the windows 7, i guess i can load the vista 64 bit, download windows 7 and sell the vista,
