My computer started running superslow. I downloaded Passmark's Benchmark test and ran it. My processor speed showed at 190mhz and the overall score was 78 compared to the baseline for a similar machine that tested at 580. I turned off speedstep and the processor measured at 900mhz and I got an overalll test of 380. What's going on?

other stuff running in the background
try updating the bios or first set the bios settings to safe default redo test then change it to fast default again do test
also you can check the startup items go to run from the start menu type in msconfig then the tab startup and have a look at what the computer is loading

If you are in Vista, your power settings may be at fault.
Go to control panel/power options/high performance(select)/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/
processor power management/maximum processor state
change to 100%

If it was set at anything less, that is what percentage of your cpu power you would get.
