right click on the device and go to properties. in the tools tab, you could see error-checking portion. That's it.

There is also a built in system file checker. Open 'command prompt' from Start menu. Type in sfc /scannow (with the space) then enter.

sfc /scannow

Using the command prompt will allow the system to repair any bad files/sectors. Using the Run command will only show bad sectors/files, not repair them.

Works fine on my dozen or so machines . With XP the system disk will be needed. Vista system file checker works by opening the command prompt. Start>programs>accessories>command prompt. Type in sfc /scannow with the space. Enter. That's it, system file checker will run and filx any errors.

Did sfc work? Convienant when running a long chkdsk upon system boot is just too long of a process.

That gave me multiple blank error boxes under Win7 and XP x64.
