The ethernet port on my laptop is done, but I can connect to the wireless network at work. I want to set up a wireless router at home, but the one I bought, a d-link wbr-2310 requires me to be connected with a wired connection. Is there a way around this?

With the router turned on does the laptop see any wireless networks? if no - then no you cant, if yes then you need the routers default WPA/WEP key - refer to its manual.

Other options include borrowing a friends PC/laptop (take router to him/her) for setup
getting some kind of usb to ethernet port adapter for the laptop.
