Hi,

I have a question before i attempt to overclock my system. As my motherboard does not allow me to Unlink the iGPU from BCLK or Lower the iGPU’s frequency, so when i overclock my processor the iGPU will be overclock at same time. However, I am using an external video card. I wish to know if I overclock my processor will there be any impact on the CPU been overheated due unable to isolate the BCLK from the iGPU?

This is not my first time overclocking a system.

My System as follows:

MOTHERBOARD:MSI H55M-E32
PROCESSOR: I3-540
VIDEO CARD: ECS GT-240
RAM: KINGSTON DDR3 1333
HARDDISK: WD CAVIER BLACK 500GB

Yes, excess heat will generate because you are essentially speeding up your entire system. Hopefully not to the point of instability. Your processor doesn't support simply turning up the multiplier, so now when you speed up the clock rate, you speed up everything. It is much tougher to over clock that processor, but it can be done. It really depends on your cooling set up for the processor. To answer the last part, no, your GPU won't break when you overclock.

You could always pull your GPU from the mobo if you think it's a problem, but that will create new problems, as in, your onboard video is controlled by the clock speed too, so you'll essentially be overclocking that also and that could show artifacts before your processor is a problem. What cooling are you using?

My apologies for using the wrong term. I meant dedicated graphics card. This is my first time overclocking Clarkdale core.

Hi,

Thanks alot for the reply. I managed to go up to
173*23 = ~ 4 Ghz (Which is what i planned to get)
with my iGPU at going very close to 1 Ghz

cpu volt is 1.274V (idle)

room temp is ~30C
my idle temp is ~40C
my full load temp is ~60C

My system is still stable since 05 Jun 11. It seems to be ok now.
My cooler is CM Vortex Plus.
