Will a 8500GT graphics card be sufficient for Empire Total War? Lowest settings.

yes it can play it on the lowest settings but its will probably give you some lag fits

Wow, even with lowest settings still lag. Thanks for the info. Might need to bump up the card to a 9500 or something.

Damn games these days keep pushing cards to the limit.

It's not so much games are pushing cards to the limit as it is the 8500 GT is just a weak card to begin with >.>

If you're interested in upgrading, try checking one of the cards listed in this review at the price point you're looking to buy from. Pretty much anything listed will blow away your 8500 GT

It depends on your resolution.

I have a 7600gt, which should perform about the same as an 8500gt. I play Medieval 2: Total War maxed out on the campaign map, but I need the almost minimum detail in battles. Those battles might be a problem for you and that's when good detail counts the most. Trust me, It's not worth playing when you have to lower the resolution to 800x600 just to get smooth frame rates.

actually the 8600GT is a re-badged 7600GT with Vista support.. The 8500GT offers 7300GT performance. Like you stated, the massive battles could become lag fests.

WTF! I thought the 8600 is better than the 7600, after all its a higher number lol. Thanks for the info. And thanks for the link, very helpful. For someone like me, I just need to see a ranking, I dont understand all the specifications and stuff.

I think something like the 9600GSO would be nice for you.

I have Empire Total Warand it plays decently on my one at lowest settings, 1680x1050.

a 7600gt comes with gddr3, the 8500gt on the other hand goes for gddr2 only, much comparable to a 7600gs.

^ super crap. the 2 cards have different architectures.
