Welcome to Tom's Hardware!

If you are running Win7, then yes ! TB HDD will work fine in your desktop computer. Refer to this manual when replacing the drive: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00311110.pdf

If your computer has only one HDD (C:drive) then pick a 1TB HDD as the replacement. Here are two choices: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
OR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148433

Both these HDDs are good and I have both types running for over a year.

Now for the replacement. I did this to my laptop as well as to my old desktop very successfully. I upgraded the C: drives from 40 GB to 250 GB in both cases. On the desktop, I added a 2nd. 500 GB HDD. Here is the procedure.

You need to 'clone' your present HDD (C: drive) to the new 1 TB HDD. Get yourself Apricorn's Drivewire - http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php?type=family&id=39

The product is available at local computer stores, online stores, and also at Apricorn. The instructions are detailed and very clear. Do some reading and familiarize yourself with this before you proceed.

hello and thanks for the message ...but how come the people of HP said I cannot put more than 500 gig in this desktop ...? I am kind of confuse...please help

Win 7 with currect BIOS will support up to 2 TBs, but your motherboard may have its own limitations. If HP told you that 500 GB is tops, that means that the motherboard is tested and approved for 500 GBs. More than 500 GBs may be a trial and error process. May or may not work.
