I was wondering if it would be worth it to drop a 4870 or possibly a 4890 into my computer to tide me over until next-gen cards are released or around christmas.

I have 2 gb ram also. Feedback appreciated!! I currently have a 7900 gs btw which is not cutting it anymore obviously.

You don't necessary have to invest that much into a video card. HD4770 or HD4830 will be fine till you're ready to invest in a new CPU/motherboard.

If you prefer Nvidia, I'd probably try to find a 8800GT(9800GT) or 8800GTS (G92) version.

Save up and get yourself a newer AM3 system or i7, i5 system.

Its a good processor , id invest in a 4850 or 9800gtx myself
