Would a phenom II x4 965 have a greater chance of higher overclocks than a phenom II x4 960? I am planning on buying a phenom ii x4 but I am not 100% sure if buying a 965 would give me better overclocking results.
The overclocking potential depends of the components and processor's batch. The X4 955/965 is a very good choice for price/performance and overclock very well in overall. If you don't have any other component yet, I suggest you go with Sandy Bridge that is much better for a little more price.
I already have an amd motherboard so I am stuck with my budget with this platform. If I were to choose one from the phenom II x4 955 to 965 would there be a high potential overclock with the more premium models like the 965? I am asking this question because I am confused as how they get the premium models. Did the higher stock clocked ones have better testing results during binning, or do they just sell some of the same processors at higher clock to increase their profits.
The price difference between the 955 and 965 is not to big of a deal for me. What I want to know if i pay for the 965 will overclocking it as opposed to 955 yield higher results?
Thats strange, why are they able to sell them at different clock if they achieve they similar results? Wouldn't it be better to sell them at the same premium clock speed?
