What is locking / unlocking ?
If that were causing me a problem, I would not do it.

after 20 mins my monitor automatically goes on screen saver mode and locked. once we give the password to unlock the system, the resolution is changed automatically...

Solution might be to change the screen saver image you are using to a newer, one, as some older ones run at a lower resolution. You did not say which way the resolution was changing, upward or downward. Eg.,
changed from 1024x768 to 800x600.

My default resolution is 1440 by 900 pixels for my dell monitor, and my power options i have changed the power scheme as "turn off monitor after 30 mins" . then by switching on the monitor display is changed to 1024by 768 pixels......

it is not changing upward or downward....... it is changing the pixels .... self changed the resolution for 1440 by 900 for a better view......

the power options: after 20mins turn off the monitor..... active in my system...

once it lock up after 20 mins and i shake the mouse button it will ask password to unlock ,, then the display is changed to 1027X 768.....

the problem is only resolution is changing automatically in same direction....
