How to fix cd dvd drive on laptop

Hi, my laptop cd / dvd drive does not read any media. Hardware manager reports that it working properly. Everytime I select the drive, it just opens the cd/dvd drive and displays "Insert disk in drive". I have an HP Pavilion laptop. If there is a solution to this, It would be great to hear it!
