My son needed to upgrade a video driver, which I did for him. Now Power Point won't work. The screen flashes black repeatedly. I tried opening in my own account and it was ok. I think it may be something to do with his user profile. Is it ok to delete the user profile or will this lock him out of the account?

From your account, I would just rename his user profile in Documents and Settings and have him login to create a new profile.
