My question is as follows:
I have a case where i need to make my laptop and my desktop computers communicate via a switch.I set the ip addresses for the laptop as 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.0.3 255.255.255.0 for the dektop PC.But I left the default gateway fields as blank in both of them.
So,do I have to add in the default gateway field for the laptop the 192.168.0.3 ip address and 192.168.0.2 for the desktop PC.

No, without a router you need a crossover cable and bypass the switch

Set the default gateway of the other 5 pc's to the non-internet IP of the one computer. The internet computer will use the normal gateway it uses for the internet connection.
