Being my first build im a bit confused.

Specs
HAF X case
G.Skill Ripjaws (2x4) ram
Asus P8P67 Deluxe m/b
XFX Radeon 6870 v/c

Which way should/do I mount the cooler?
Logic tells me to mount it so the air is pushed out thru the top of case cause its a larger fan
But looking at the fit if I do this the video card wont fit

Would it be right to say that I have to mount this so the back fan sits on top of the ram and pushes the heat out the back of the case?

Also a bit worried about the spread of the termal paste
Put some on in a test run and then pulled it off and it had like little cracks thru it
Mind you I didnt keep it on for longer than 5 minutes and Im spewing I didn't take a photo to show what I mean

Thank You in advance

Solution
Hi.

The proper way is install the cooler taking the air from the front side of your case and blowing up to the back side. In other words:

case's front side>fan1>cooler>fan2>cooler>case's back side
