So I have been asking questions and looking at builds and getting a build together for myself. I have got a build with a i7 860. Why does there seem to be so much hate on these forums for the 860?
What am I really honestly gaining with a 920 since I will not be o/cing, no sli, I am gaming, and I get the 860 for about 100 bucks less due to a discount.
After seeing some where near 30 posts about 920 > 860 I would like to know why...
I dont know what people are talking about. The only real difference is the 920 is socket 1366 and has tri-channel DDR3, while the 860 is lga 1156 which dual channel DDR3. Also the 860 is 95w and the 920 is 130w.
That's what I thought, everyone just keeps saying go 920 go 920, I mean granted I cant OC with a 860 like I can with a 920 but I dont plan to OC, and if I do int he future it'll be my loss (not that O/Cing will be to extremely different with 860 vs 920),
Well most people say get the 920 instead of 860 for a few reasons.
1. (already mentioned) tri channel instead dual channel.
2. Most people when playing games that want to go CF/SLI will have full dual 16x bandwidth instead of 8x 8x bandwidth on the p55 mortherboards (what the 860 is on).
3. There's already talk of a new cpu compatible with the same sockets (1366) that the 920 on. (although that doesn't mean the lga 1156 socket wont have a new cpu on it.)
That why. Although most people that have both x58 motherboard cpus and p55 motherboard cpus says they dont see much of a difference between the two. Mainly because these systems are so powerful that software has not had time to catch up. So for now it doesn't mater if you get 1 or the other.
