Making an association under file options

I am trying to open a USB folder on my laptop and I get a message instructing me to make an association. I tried the other posting about the ppt, but it wants me to associate the USB folder with powerpoint. The usb has mp3 files, and some Word docs. Now what????

Also, a link to "the other posting about ppt" might be helpful. It may not apply to your case which we can rule out easy enough with the exact message. Or, perhaps you need to do something just a little different.
