I am trying to get an old computer working to give to an old lady but it's sending me to the grave quicker than her! The first problem is that the keyboard works when the computer first starts, but then quits working before windows loads. I can get into the bios settings just fine, and reset them all to default, but that's about it. If I try to boot off a CD (say, XP installation CD), the keyboard doesn't work in there either. It's a USB keyboard, but I have even tried using a PS/2 adapter. Nothing changes.

The second problem is the video output... the monitor displays everything while the computer is booting up, but as soon as windows starts loading it goes out. Windows loads successfully because it plays the windows start sound, but the monitor is blank. It doesn't say "no signal" or anything, it's just black. I would boot into safe mode if I could, but see problem #1!! anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Could be that the motherboard should be loaded in the hearse first. Have you inspected it for leaking capacitors or burnt spots?
