Power on but no boot or post

Decided to take my working asus motherboard out of an older working system and put it in a dell 4600 case. I took all components out of the dell case. Added all my components from the other machine. Power goes on, no post or boot. Thought it was a power supply problem and took my old power supply and hooked it up. Again same problem. Thought I had a blown board and just as a lark, re installed the board in the original system. It works again. What is the problem. I literally gutted the dell box before, even taking the power switch from the old machine

Could be that the wiring system in the Dell case is proprietary ?

going to try to set this up on a foam pad outside of the case and see what happens

That's a good start to unraveling case problems.
