Was Gigabyte's G31 motherboard any good for OC'ing? I heard the E2140 is a very good overclocker, and I wanted to OC it to around 3.2Ghz. Was wondering which board to go with. G31 motherboards useally sell for around £25, so they are very affordable.

£25 = $50 :)

Nope, I already own the CPU. I just want to build a super dirt cheap gaming PC for my little brother whos been dying to play GTAIV and MW2. Teamed with my old 8600GTS I see no problems for the E2140 when OC'd.

So I take it that the G31 is a good OC'er?

Some of the Gigabyte G31's I've seen (and mine) have been able to go 3.6GHz+ (though that's with a 45nm processor).

For your case the Gigabyte G31 would suit your needs just fine. (Though there is one hitch with G31's, you can't adjust the memory latency and they always seem to run at CAS6).

The hitch... Are you talking about RAM? If so, I won't really be OC'ing the RAM.

You could still OC, timings become a problem when you are shooting for a high OC also on ram. In most cases though, you'd just set the ram speed to a lower speed when your OC starts becoming unstable or doesn't boot.

On the plus side, the Gigabyte G31's are also almost dirt cheap.

And they are inexpensive boards with basic (as opposed to rudimentary) overclocking capabilities. They work well with CPU's that have a relatively low FSB and a high internal multiplier - such as the E5200.

^ So you mean the E2140 is a good chioce for "basic" OCing :D

All I wanna do is see it pass the 3.0Ghz mark, and actually be stable. The case currently has 3 old 120MM fans inside the case, so keeping the inside of the case venetlated shouldn't be a problem.
