Hi, i have a dell E520 and bought a 2nd hand nVidia 7900 GTX (which will be better than my bog standard 7300 LE) and don't have a molex connector to plug it into.
does anyone know if i can you use another power supply like the SATA connection ( i don't think so but not sure) or my other option is :
i have a spare 450W PSU which has the right molex connectors for the adapter lead ( 4 pin to 6 pin) to power the card but will the card only draw the power it needs or will it just fry my card, mobo and set my house on fire........?
the other PSU is old and doesn't have the right connectors for the rest of the set-up
Delluser1 : the sata connector; does it carry the power needed for the card? i'd read on the one of the forums ( i've read so many now i can't keep track) that it doesn't carry enough current.

Yes it can carry the current, personally I would upgrade the psu just to have the dedicated PCIE power.

Thanks Delluser1 i'll order the connector tonight.
I do have a spare PSU that does have all the right connectors for the card but not the rest of my PC and i could run them through a space in the back of the case and power the card, i just thought it might be a bit of overkill and kill my pc if i get it wrong.
