Hi,

I have an ASUS p6t Deluxe, orginally with an i7 940. The processor became faulty, replaced with i7 860.

The physical processor seems smaller, the socket is too big. Have I bought the wrong processor?

Thanks

Yes, the 860 needs a LGA 1156 socket, the P6T has a LGA 1336 socket, so either sell the 860 and get a new 920 or sell the P6T and get a LGA 1156 motherboard.

In your defense Intel made a nasty naming mistake when they named the 860 an i7 processor.
