What do you guys think of WDD buying out two of the top most firms, even the aging gatling spinning raptors still pack some power and muscle! Can they get back in the game and compete with SSD? 10% shares to hitachi/ibm deskstar R&D sounds like a good move! maybe they can get out those spinning 20,000 R.P.M. that were rumours along time ago to compete!Intel makes a giant move with SSD knocking out Mushkins vs. Crucial WOW! Lot of exciting moves in the HDD arena! Any Comments?

Next Potential Moves, Buy-Out Mushkin and see If they can upgrade their SSD Line-up! Sell WD Smartware Software to Windows OS's to replace system restore with its cool visual interface! Eventually Buy IP of Seagate Momentus Hybrid Drive, and See what they can do with it!

Solid State Drives and Hard Disks are not competitors, they're complementary products. You buy SSDs for speed, and HDDs for capacity. SSDs will never be able to compete with hard drives on a cost per gigabyte basis, and they'll always have the write endurance issue (which will become more severe as the cell sizes are scaled down).

SSD's already through the Sinker ball at Hybrid HDD, Take that Mushkin 285MB Reads/275 180GB Writes Serial ATA-II 3Gbps and use Window Volume extend when it drops in price to around $200, and you could get $200X3=$600 for 180GBx3=540GB, or Raid-5 -25%real estate! Its not a bad solution eventually! HDD are too slow but have a higher capacity! You want a Terrabyte Hard Drive in Raid-0/Raid-5 or a Muskin SSD? To me its Price/Performance!

The Price at Newegg.com is $200 for 128GB SSD's Various Brands, maybe by X-Mas Prices will Drop or if they Die shrink it to cut costs it might hit the Sweet Mushkin Muffin Sweet Spot!

Seagate Just Bough Out Samsung officially Rumored 1.75Billion! 50%Cash/50% Share split! Not like the Japanese Deal 75%Cash 25% Stocks ,or OCZ Less than 1 Month buy-out of Infineon 100% in the SSD Market is that Taipei Taiwain!

Samsung and Seagate make a good expo in the SSD/Hybrid Drive market with samsung being amajor supplie rof flash memory! This maybe gives an opening to WD to pick-up mushkin and beef up some of its SSD line ups! Mushkin is feeling the Heat From Corsair in the SSD Market and RAM its Major Competitor!

WD and Seagate Look even in Cache! Looks like an even 1 vs. 1 in the HDD Market!
