Memory card slot not recognizing media

I have a laptop that has a 6-in-1 slot that will read an SD card. The device manager lists the "Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller" under "PCMCIA and Flash Memory Devices" and says "the device is working properly".

However, when I insert an SD card, explorer does not detect a new device connected.

What do I have to do to get this slot to recognize media inserted?

How capacity size do you have the SD card? If you insert 4GB or more SDHC/SDXC, your PC is not supported SDHC/SDXC.
Please try to insert <4GB SD(not SDHC) card into your pc.

Ohhh, that must be the problem. I inserted a 16 GB micro-SD card (in a Micro-to-SD adaptor), so the size means it's SDHC?

Would there be a chance that a software update may allow SDHC to be read?
