Hi all,
How actually good is it to have a DDR3 RAM card that runs the same FSB as the processor?
Or is 4 GB of DDR2-800 better than 2 GB of DDR3-1066 with a new intel @ 1066mhz..
this question is intended for laptops, if that varies the answers in any way.
Latency is a big factor, usually the lower end speed of a new ram spec could be outperformed by the previous gen. And since the difference between 800MHz and 1066MHz would probably just account for 3% or less additional fps in games, you'd hardly notice the difference.
Get the 4GB kit, it is better for opening loads of apps at a time.
Not only will the extra 2Gb of RAM be useful, it is actually faster.
Considering that DDR2 800 runs at either CAS5 or CAS4 and DDR3 1066 runs CAS7 or CAS8, the 'slower' DDR2 will be able to access information a good while faster than the DDR3.
