Hardrive Failed

My win xp hardrive said failure upon bootup,I removed said HD from comp connected it to my win 7 machine and extracted my pictures to a portable hardrive,Installed another hardrive into win xp machine its back up and running again but i cannot view the pictures i put on portable hardrive but i can view them on win 7 machine,Xp shows portable drive has my stuff but i cannot view items ????

You probably have to take ownership of the folder.
