I've just bought a workstation for 3D animation but I am also a gaming enthusiast. The card im using is a NVIDIA QUADRO FX 3800. Obviously this is not going to run games as its not optimized to do so. What I would like to know is if i purchased a GTX 295 and installed it along side the QUADRO is there anyway of switching what GPU I am using for different applications. (i.e. I dont want to run the cards using SLI as I understand its not possible, I just want to switch which GPU my system is using when running games.) Is this possible at all? Any feedback would be much appreciated!
I honestly dont know but I a feeling there is software to do so If you can switch graphics adapters in bios then there might be software for it, if you cant then i dont know
Cheers for the reply! Ill google it and see if i can find anything. If anyone can come up with a definitive answer in the mean time it would be very much appreciated
Still can't seem to find an answer. I have been googling pretty much non stop and no solution has presented itself yet. Can anyone tell me if this is possible or not please? and if so has anyone on here ran a setup like this?
Unfortunately i do not think this can be done, I had same issue with a gaming/workstation system, could not get it to work, had to have seperate systems. 1 system with quadrofx 3700, other gtx 260 SLI for gaming.
Workstations are built for pretty much that, working wont play games well, but can render maya 2009 awesome.
I think your Quadro FX3800 will run a video game just fine. Check out Youtube for a video clip, some kid is running Crysis on a Quadro 570m card and it looks decently fast.
