Computer Freezing

Recently I'm experiencing a strange problem , I hear clicking sounds 2-3 times when my pc is running (the similar noise is produced after computer shutdown) and then my system freezes up , cpu & psu fans go wild and nothing works except the mouse pointer , shutdown button does not work and I manually have to turn off the power. The same problem also happened 6 months before and after a few days I found my PSU dead. I changed the PSU and it is happening again now.

I'm desperate for a solution .....

System Configuration:-
Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz
Transcend 2gb RAM DDR2
ECS Asterope 3 Motherboard (Compaq PC)
Seagate 250gb & WD Cavair 160GB HDD
2 LG IDE dvd writer
NVIDIA 8500gt (512mb)
PSU 450W

get some warm clothes for your computer anyway, i also aim for the psu

Problem solved ... sorry for the late .. It was a loose SATA power connector issue.. changed it and the problem dissapeared.
