A friend is offering me 4GB of Kingston ram for $50. It is the same 800mhz clock speed as my other 4GB of ram. I have a E8400 on an average gigabyte board. I don't do gaming.

On average, I use 1.5GB at any given time and this number goes up with internet usage, applications etc.

Will I notice a difference? Is it worth the money?

I game, you don't. If you want 8 gigs, buy it. It won't make much difference in your case from what you describe. Also, I got a good deal and it made sense at the time although I don't really utilize it. BTW, i took out 4 gigs and put it in my media center rig. I can't tell any difference with or without the xtra 4 gigs...

I second englandr753, 8GB isn't really worth it. I saw absolutely no performance difference in most of what I do. The only reason I upgraded to that much RAM is that I plan on retiring this machine as a VM server.
