Why are there HDD warranty checks here?

Why are all these people asking us for warranty checks? Does Seagate have a link to us? Is this a practical joke, played either on us or the poor souls who are looking to us to check their warrantees? :??:

Or is it self-perpetuating: people search for warranty check and find these threads? The titles are almost always "<brand> Warranty Check."

That was one of my guesses, the self-perpetuating one, but I just checked Google and we came up fourth, behind correct links. Not on the page at all for "Seagate Warranty." Maybe it's just one of life's mysteries?
