My Phenom II x4 955, with stock speed, voltages, and fan, is idling at 50C. Under load it reaches up to 65C. I have only had this CPU for about two weeks. I have tried replacing the thermal tape with MassCool paste, and Radio Shack paste. I've changed the paste probably about ten times, all with no results. Do these temps justify an exchange for another processor?
Okay, I changed the thermal paste, again, and my temps are at 43C idle. It still seems pretty high. Am I just not installing the thermal paste correctly? I read the tutorial and I followed it, yet the temps are still seem high. Airflow is 27C. When running prime95, in the first 5 minutes, the CPU skyrockets to 64C.
If your case is not well vented, you won't get good temp by always recirculating the same hot air inside. Leave the case side open to see if it improves temp. If yes, then your case is not evacuating hot air fast enough.
Thanks for all your guys' help. I decided to reduce the voltage to my processor until I can get around to picking up a Coolmaster 212+. It's not running great, 56C under load at 1.3V, but it should be fine. Once again thanks for your guys' help!
Well just wanted to post the results of the aftermarket cooler. With the hyper 212+, I am idling at 32C with room at about 27C. Under load, the 212+ brought the temps from 66C to about 52C give or take. Thanks for all your guys responses. I appreciate the help!
