Hello To All,

I am currently purchasing and building a new computer. The following is a list of parts I currently posses –

Case
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S=1162&ID=1450

I replaced the stock exhaust fan in the rear of the case, and I installed a new intake 120mm on the front of the case with “generic” w/ red LED fans

I installed two intake fans on the transparent side of the case, one replaced the stock “cone”

The blue fans over power the red fans however, in my opinion it’s the greatest contrast.

Power Supply
1200W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817374014&Tpk=in%20win%20commander%201200W

Back Up HDD
1tb 7200rpm 32mb cache
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
I mounted a blue led hard drive fan under the 1tb drive

Motherboard
P6T Deluxe V2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131365

Processor
I7 950 3.06GHz

Mouse

Keyboard

The following is a list of parts I am saving up to purchase (all parts should be purchased within the month of July) –

RAM
3 X 2GB 1866MHz 2EA for a total of 12GB
http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?id=769

Video Card
ATI Radeon 4870 X2 (2EA CrossfireX)
http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-4000/hd-4870X2/Pages/hd-4870X2.aspx

Primary SSD’s
SLC SSD 64GB 2EA
http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/extreme/index.htm
Would I need a Raid controller for this? If so which would be the best? I was told my motherboard has an onboard Raid controller and it wouldn’t be necessary.

Monitors
Will be a 2millisecond refresh widescreen lcd any suggestions?

If possible 2EA
http://www.mimomonitors.com/products/mimo-740

OS
Dual boot Win 7 and Win Xp64bit

DVD Player
Blue Ray dvd player

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. And I know I should have purchased an i7 975 Extreme however the price was just a little too high for a slight increase in preformance (maybe I'll replace not sure at the moment).

The Core i7 950 is very nice but not worth the money when compared to the performance of the Core i7 920 DO stepping. If possible I would send it back and pick up an Core i7 920 DO stepping and OC to the i7 950 or higher speeds. It will save you half the money!!

I won't trust this system with what you selected as a power supply. I know you already purchased it along with the Core i7 950, but if not too late send it back and pick up a CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Compatible ... - Retail. It will be more than enough to power your setup.

Don't waste your on the memory you picked. It isn't worth $700 for memory. I would recommend getting OCZ Platinum 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV12GS - Retail, which will run just a little under $175. Running DDR3 1600 won't be much different than DDR3 1866.

You don't need a RAID controller, just use the one on the board.

Since you are running 2 x 4870X2, I would recommend going 27" or above.
- Hanns·G HG-281DPB Black 27.5" 3ms Widescreen HDMI LCD Monitor - Retail
- Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC 30-inch WideScreen Flat Panel Monitor

I appreciate your suggestions Thanks!

I am stuck with the power supply and CPU.
My father owns a computer store and runs the power supply in three other gaming machines so hopefully no issues will arrise.
The CPU I though was great and money isn't really an issue however I wasn't impressed with the i7 975 benchmarks.

On the Ram Mushkin has the Redline with low latency so that was the direction I was heading lowest latency possible.

What do you think of the SLC SSD Drives nice eh?

Does anyone frown on me removing the "cone" which goes over the processor on the case and going with an intake fan there?

No... you will most likely have to do that any way when you install a 3rd Party CPU Cooler.

If you have the money... than it is yours to spend. The RAM is very nice.... just way to pricey for my taste!! :D

Intel X25-E Extreme SSDSA2SH064G1 2.5" 64GB SATA II SLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD) - Retail ($749.00).... correct? It is VERY nice but for $1,498 you could build most people another Core i7 920 build that kicks butt!!... than again... if you have the money... than it is yours to spend.

I'm just a little jealous that's all!! :kaola: :D You'll have to post some pics & 3DMark Vantage scores when you are done with the build...

Yep those are the SSD Drives that I will be purchasing.

Thanks for the info on the "cone"

I am going to post some pictures here soon. I already have a few of the power supply mounted in the case along with the blue LED fans look pretty awesome!
