Hello
The company i work for process a lot of graphical data and other types of data sets from sonar systems we have 10 dedicated computers for this job. They are fairly decent computers but people are complaining that they take a long time to process the data. We dont have a big budget and after checking out the computers I noticed that they all have there Data and OS on the same disk which is often fragmented. My plan is to transfer the OS of all the computers onto a Raptor HDD and install 2 1TB disks for data storage do you think this help improve perfomance? here are the specs of all the machines we have for this job. what other updates and OS tweeks could i do to improve processing times? would an update to the graphics cards give any significate benifite. I cant update the RAM as we are limited to 32bit systems. any help would be great.

Thanks

I am also about to order up 4 new PC, This is the spec i have gone for I am hopping this system will be more up to the job than the previous computers. Not sure if i could do with a better Graphics card on this system though. The biggest problem i have is that the company i am working for doesnt want to spend massive amounts of money so its hard to balance a system to do everything they want.

1: Intel Xeon W3520 2.66Ghz
1: Geforce GTS250 1GB
4GB DDR3 ECC Memory
1: 80GB 10000RPM SATA HDD

This is the rec spec of the software we run

Dual core "Core2duo" 2.6 GHz
Windows XP or higher (only 32 bit OS)
2 Gb RAM
500 Gb Harddisk
256 Mb Video card with 1280x1024 res and 32 bit colors.

If you name the software You run You might get some answers from somebody familiar with that soft. Or You can ask software maker for advice. Without knowing Your software we do not know what to recommend.

If You are on 32 bit OS there is no point getting more then 4GB RAM

We do not know if software can use more then 2 threads if it does it might help to get quad core processors.

If Your software needs lot of HDD IO it might help to get faster HDD's or SSD's

We do not know if vieo card affects performance art all for Your soft.
