Well Proxy, I have no idea why the wishlist was permanently retarded that last time, so I'll post links for this build.

All he does is play games, download, watch, and burn movies, and that's pretty much it. He's hoping for 1920x1200 in games with good settings.

PSU: Corsair 750tx http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139006
(I told him that for the system he was building he wouldn't need that much power, but he informed me down the road he'd like to go for an i7, and that the deal on it was too good to pass up)

So, I'm looking for a couple things other than general feedback.

1) Any deals that can save him some money
2) A possible AMD alternative, since the popularity of the phenom is so high right now for budget/mid-range gaming.

However, I haven't built AMD since I had a Winchester in high school. So, how's the tuning vs. Core 2?

Don't build a LGA 775 machine, it's outdated. Go with a Core i7, or a Phenom II.

You should really fill out the form in THIS THREAD and post it here so we know what kind of budget your looking at, if you want to overclock etc etc.

I gave feedback on THAT THREAD when theanimal created it.

I'm good thx.

And I run on an i7. All I'm looking for is what I asked, versus what I posted.

No, you're right. Just annoyed and at work is all. Still no excuse.

Any ideas about an athlon?

^ maybe phenom but not athlon.

switch the e8400 and corresponding mobo for a P2 550 and corresponding mobo, it'll be cheaper and perform very close.

also tell him if he wants the i7 standards of today, he'll have to pay a pretty penny for it in about 6 months.

What do you mean by that?
