Forum Graphics & Displays : TV Tuner Cards 1080p Video on PC?

I recently bought a 24inch LCD tv for use as a pc monitor and tv (mainly TV) with one HDMI. I upgraded my video card to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127434 for the HDMI port and it sounded like a good card for the price. Just looked around on here and was shown http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127414 thinking that ones a lil better because of the Stream Process count being 800 and mine being 64... but that all confuses me i usually only look at the jacks, the cooling, RAM, and the GPU clock.... but that one has no HDMI port =] im a simple man lol Was i wrong in buying the one i did?

Main question... i want to watch Blue Ray movies through my pc in 1080p on that TV using the HDMI port with Blueray movies burned onto my computer, i store them all on an external so i dont scratch the precious cd. If i watch these films on my computer from the burned source instead of the actual cd will i still reach 1080p?

Thanks =] I'm new to this whole HDTV 720p 1080p world.

Yes you can watch them in the same definition as the rips. However I'm going to suggest a card here that also does sound through it's HDMI.

$95 Sapphire 4830 (has HDMI, and 7.1 sound)

If you look at the specs on the newegg listing for your 9600GT card, it states that it supports resolutions up to 2560 x 1600.

1080p is 1920 x 1080.

Note that 2560 x 1600 = 4.1 million pixels
1920 x 1080 = 2.1 million pixels.

So the card should be able to handle a screen with twice as many in pixels as what you have.

His 9600 GT should do sound through HDMI as well. According to the manufacturers sight, conveniently linked to from the card page on newegg:

"Dual-link DVI convertible output supports Video/Audio signal integration through DVI to HDMI interface, which drivers resolution of a digital display up to 1920x1200 or higher. "

"MSI graphics cards offer the HDMI functionality to provide access to premium digital content. HDMI enables gaming enthusiasts to seamlessly connect to their LCD monitor to bring the ultimate multimedia experience. (Only 1 single HDMI cable is required while streaming audio/video data to flat-panel display devices, such as Plasma/LCD TVs, or projector.) "

Did you check your manual ?

some auzen soundcards have hdmi out, you connect your video card to the sound card and the sound card to the monitor (tv.) i think. or something.

-No no no, buddy, that doesn't mean anything, ATI and NVIDIA have completley different formulas for how many cores give in output of a specific amount of power, an NVIDIA with 240 processing cores could be more powerful then an ATI card with 800 cores! The cores aren't the equivelent in both manufactures. Currently the most powerful consmer grade/gaming video card with a single GPU is has 240 and is more powerful/the same then/as another card offered by ATI that really does have 800. For true comparison, throw away your specs and look at benchmarks, thats when it really counts after all.
