1080p Video on PC?

Forum Graphics & Displays : TV Tuner Cards 1080p Video on PC?

I recently bought a 24inch LCD tv for use as a pc monitor and tv (mainly TV) with one HDMI. I upgraded my video card to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127434 for the HDMI port and it sounded like a good card for the price. Just looked around on here and was shown http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127414 thinking that ones a lil better because of the Stream Process count being 800 and mine being 64... but that all confuses me i usually only look at the jacks, the cooling, RAM, and the GPU clock.... but that one has no HDMI port =] im a simple man lol Was i wrong in buying the one i did?

Main question... i want to watch Blue Ray movies through my pc in 1080p on that TV using the HDMI port with Blueray movies burned onto my computer, i store them all on an external so i dont scratch the precious cd. If i watch these films on my computer from the burned source instead of the actual cd will i still reach 1080p?

Yes you can watch them in the same definition as the rips. However I'm going to suggest a card here that also does sound through it's HDMI.

$95 Sapphire 4830 (has HDMI, and 7.1 sound)

Ah so im bottle necking the sound with that card down to default bad sound?

If you look at the specs on the newegg listing for your 9600GT card, it states that it supports resolutions up to 2560 x 1600.

1080p is 1920 x 1080.

Note that 2560 x 1600 = 4.1 million pixels
1920 x 1080 = 2.1 million pixels.

So the card should be able to handle a screen with twice as many in pixels as what you have.

His 9600 GT should do sound through HDMI as well. According to the manufacturers sight, conveniently linked to from the card page on newegg:

some auzen soundcards have hdmi out, you connect your video card to the sound card and the sound card to the monitor (tv.) i think. or something.

They should all be arriving in the next day or so(i hope) i will test them all then.
