I have a D-Link router wbr-1310 and lost the power adapter 5v 2.5a. Generally how do you find one that will fit in the power receptor and will be the right output? Does it matter if you go over the power amount at like 6v 3a?

Radio shack sells adjustable power transformers with interchangeable plugs which will fit a pretty large range of equipment.

You want to find an adapter that has the SAME VOLTAGE and a current (amp) rating that's AT LEAST as high as required by the equipment you're powering.

most also allow the tip polarity to be set, as that can vary as well.
