Which one is better ?

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core

or

Intel Core 2 Duo - E8400 (3.0GHz)

Reason for getting X4 940 over the E8400...
Check out the benchmarks between the X4 and the E8500...In gaming it is neck-to-neck and in other multithreaded apps, it will easily perform better because it is a Quad...

And as for the mobo, the GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P is a very good option as it has crossfire support and has very good features too...

Why?
Clock for clock, the PII architecture is nearly as efficient as the C2 architecture.
They are also very good overclockers, have twice the cores and are very cost effective when compared to their Intel brothers.

As for the motherboard, go with an ASUS or Gigabyte AMD 790 based one.
Also, make sure you get DDR2 1066 or better.
I understand these AMD CPU's love the extra memory bandwidth.
