I am trying to upgrade my pc, i know that i have to replace the whole motherboard, well i am interested in learning that. I was wondering if you guys could help me with doing that, and tell me what parts i should buy for my desktop in order to make it like a nowadays computers. Also i really would like to know roughly how much would this whole thing cost me.i want to do the best upgradation with least money possible. thanx in advance.

I am really happy that an Iranian guy is going to help me , my usage is in programming and webdesign and sometimes music composing.
I am not really into games so i dont think graphic card should be a big deal for me.
My budget is something around 300-350$ since i am doing something extra and not mandatory.

Shifting from a P4 would need a motherboard, cpu and a RAM change.
Athlon X4 620, Biostar TA790GX A3+, GSkill DDR3 1600 MHz (CL7) Ram's would be good. But as Maziar said if you include a full PC, it would be tough to fit into $350 range!

Please list what you know about the components already in your existing PC. Download and run CPU-Z to find out your motherboard, cpu and ram specs.
What hard drive is installed? How much space do you need?
Is your old PC just old, or does it not work at all?
What do you currently find lacking on the PC now?
What monitor do you currently have?

I ask these questions because performance is not usually a high priority for your uses, but your monitor configuration can be.

Actually i am satisfieded with the current monitor and case that i have, and i think they both work well.
The only thing remains is the motherboard and its content i guess.

What are you trying to accomplish with an upgrade?
If you are planning to use your old cpu, we need to know what it is so a compatible motherboard can be suggested.
If we know all that you have, we can determine what parts can usefully be reused.
What case do you now have? Cases and motherboards come in different sizes, so they need to be compatible.

Take the time to itemize everything you now have because it COULD be important, and the posters have no way of guessing.

I think my CPU has to be changed because what i am trying to do is to update my current desktop.
My current desktop specification is:
processor:iNTEL(R) Pentium 4 CPU 3GHz
Memory:512MB Ram
Oprating system:Windows XP professional
System manufacture: Dell compute corporation
System Model: Dimension 8300
I hope these are all the information you need.
Thanx again.

A pentium 4 @ 3.0 is a decent cpu for what you are doing. I see only 512mb of ram as inadequate.
Download and run CPU-Z; copy and paste the information so we can determine what kind of ram update is possible.
My guess is that 2gb of ram will cost about $100.

Well i think changing the CPU would make me more up to date and also it will allow me to run the softwares that take lots of processing.
Also i looked up the 2GB ram online, it sounds like they were are all costing under 100$.
