Can i wipe the hdd from my xp pc and then use it as an external drive on my wind

Most likely.

1) Remove from XP

2) Insert into external enclosure

3) Attach enclosure to your Windows 7 system

4) Use Disk Management to delete the existing partition(s), create new one(s), and format them.
