Hola,
My girlfriend said his PC died today, after several times of motherboard-beep-filled shutdowns. Even after a CMOS reset, the motherboard now won't turn on (only for a nanosecond, also spinning up the CPU and PSU fan, so I presume these two are okay, as is the motherboard itself).

I suspected the CPU to be faulty, but after hopping it out, besides some tiny discoloration, I found no major burn marks...or..? I shoot some pictures, could anyone say otherwise?

(As you can see, it's a Barton-filled Athlon 2800, I sadly can't test it with another CPU as I have no replacement for this old socket... )

Thanks

Could be a power supply or motherboard. Pricewatch had one vender with fic boards for under $20 shipped recently. But first, I would try a cheap power supply. It's about the same price as the board, and more likely the problem. Only time I see the cpu fail is if the cpu heatsink fan quits working for awhile. Frys has some great cheap combo specials right now if you live near one.

Clean all of the gunk off the cpu with some tissue and alcohol and then regrease, reseat and clean the base of the HSF then put it all back together.

Tell us what bios beeps you get and the actual mobo if you know.

Honestly that sounds like a PSU fault so if you have a spare old ATX PSU try changing that next.
