Is this a good cpu/motherboard/ ram bundle ?

It's pretty cheap and would be sufficient for internet/email/word processing...but that's about it.

This wouldn't be good for gaming or any heavy duty tasks (video/audio encoding, developing, etc).

Why are you going in for a bundle and not making one yourself? I checked the i5 & i7 they're fine for gaming in the link that you sent, but, not worth the cost, since you will still need to add a GPU....

Whats your total budget for these 3 items and your graphics card? If you only have £80 or less left for the GPU then the bundle you 1st linked to may be your best choice but I suggest if you can get an i3 2100 or at least a Pentium G840 these will not cost much more. For gaming your GPU is more important than the CPU.

is making one myself cheaper ??

I already have a 9800gtx, thats good enough, now I need a new processor and motherboard etc

I am only looking for budget gaming, but good enough to play all games,

If you can find all the things I need on ebay for 150 british pounds, then go for it

''this bundle will be alot better but you will need to spend £100+ on a new GPU to get all you can from it''

why do I need a new GPU ??

a 9800gtx is a great card

or I have I misunderstood ?

I am saying your graphics card is weak and even the Athlon x 2 will be held back by its performance and even if you get the new $1000 Intel Core i7-3960X it would not allow you to game any better than the Athlon x2. But if in 6months to a years time you buy a £100 graphics card then the i3 bundle will go with it much better.

I'd be tempted to go for this one:
Intel Core I3 2100 3.1 Dual Core CPU 4GB DDR3 Motherboa...
£153.95+£6.95
2nd choice:

AMD 645 3.1 Quad Core CPU 8GB DDR3 Motherboard Bundle141.95+£6.95
If you want to do 'modern gaming' you will be seriously hampered by the GTX9800 video.
Do you really want to spend £40 or so on a 'modern' game and be playing at reduced resolution, or are you still using a 15"CRT monitor?

how is my graphics card weak ??

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card-game-performance-radeon-hd-6670,2935-7.html

it's 6th on the list of the hierarchy

that's the only reason I bought it

and it cost me 60 British Pounds, a bargain

Your graphics card is weak because it came out over 3 years ago it is worth £60 ,but it will only play modern games on low-medium settings which an Athlon II x2 can also do. For a modern gaming PC a new £85 graphics card is considered around the minimum.

Like I said,

I am a budget gamer

I simply have to disagree with you calling it a weak card,

so what 3 years ago ? the 8800 range also came out like 5 years ago and they still are amazing

Hey!! Fuggles, don't take the remarks about the card personally. It is old.... and it is weak when it comes to today's games. The Card hierarchy isn't like the Queens Hierarchy, it's not the got anything to do with the blood flowing thru the cards veins..... it's just old tech and will have a lot of problems coping with today's workloads. What most of the people are basically trying to advise you is that put your money into a more balanced system that will last you another 8 to 10 years.... Since the CPU and RAM will be like 3 generations ahead of the GPU you might be held back due to that.
All the replies to your question are with one thing in mind, max power and life at the least price.
You want to hang onto the 9800GTX for the next few years till it dies on you, ok, but eventually it will die, so the next card you end up buying will need to be in sync with the rig you buy today. Do you understand my point?
You will need to add another 30 Pound Sterling to your budget and get every penny worth for the next 5 years.... with this
