I just bought a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ and my temps dropped drastically. Amazing HSF and very easy to install. Just make sure your case is wide enough as I barely fit it into mine.

I have no personal experience with the i5-2500k. I have read that the stock fan is fairly quiet. I've also read that a small overclock is possible with stock cooling. If you are not overclocking, you already have a cool and quiet cooling solution. What more could you want?

The only reason I can see getting an alternate solution now is if you want cooling that is near silent or if you really are fairly certain you will overclock at some point and you don't want to deal with changing coolers.

I just replaced my i5-2500K's stock HSF tonight with a Xigmatek Gaia and I can tell you right off the bat that what I noticed the most was how much quieter it was compared to the OEM unit. Just my $0.02 worth.

My temps under load from Prime95:

3.4 GHz & Stock HSF ~ 74 C & 1700 RPM
4.3 GHz OC & Gaia HSF ~ 61 C & 1300 RPM

sorry that i haven't been back for a while, but i have a thermaltake dokker. will a hyper 212+ fit in that case? if not is there something similar that will? oh yeah, will the 212 fit on a M-ATX board, because there is not much space between the CPU and graphics card (ASUS P8-P67-M-Pro). Lastly, is the 212+ similar to a 212? or is it the same thing...

As far as i know theres 2 versions of the 212, the 212 quiet, and the 212+

I think they are both the same size, however i know the Hyper 212 is about 16cm tall, meaning you need a case at least 19cm wide to really fit everything in.
